Women are slowly but surely moving away from thin and skinny body shapes. More and more, women are beginning to realize that curves are what makes a woman’s body attractive. This was partly validated when British women in a recent poll cited Nigella Lawson’s body shape as the one that they would most like to have.
This was also the trend in the results of the polls conducted at the end of this article. Not surprisingly, men too prefer women with curvy hourglass body shapes to straight ones. The reader poll conducted at the end of this article clearly yielded this result. The poll at the end of the article is still active and the reader is invited to vote his or her preference.
Nigella in the picture on the right epitomizes the hourglass shape that most women are starting to yearn for. The craze for the hour-glass shape like that of Nigela Lawson has started.
Like fashion, it seems that the type of bodies that women yearn for also change with time. The hourglass shape was coveted in Edwardian times in the early 1900s.
In those days women wore fancy dresses and gowns that were designed to make the hour-glass shape of a woman to prominently stand out. You would typically see these sort of dresses worn in the movie Titanic.
This was further made famous on the silver screen by American actresses such as Jane Russel and later by Marilyn Monroe. The sexy and shapely bodies of silver screen divas like Jane Russell were coveted by millions. Marilyn Monroe may have been at the end of the hourglass body shape era.
Then came the era of the skinny models such as Twiggy. This was a time when women yearned more for their collar bones to be seen than having slim waists or hour glass shapes. It was a time of straight bodies and extreme dieting. This also started the era of starvation to the extent of malnutrition. These skinny and straight bodies were held in high esteem even up to this day.
There was a rush to fit into the smallest sized clothes be it a size zero or a size 10. This extreme dieting came with a price. Health was compromised almost always. The loss of muscles on the upper back compromised posture.
In the last few years, there has been outrage and increased public awareness on how unhealthy some of these dieting regimes were. The hourglass shape was so prevalent among our great grand mothers. It was largely a result of a healthy land active lifestyle. Unfortunately in modern times, living a healthy life takes a lot of effort.
All said and done, an hourglass shape could still be achievable, even in modern times. While a lot of people claim that genes play a major role, an hour-glass body could be carved out to a great extent with a healthy diet and correct exercises. Dieting should be avoided and the focus should be on losing weight correctly.
Correct Weight Loss is achieved by losing fat while maintaining or building on the body’s muscles. Incorrect weight loss is achieved by just blindly wanting weight loss irrespective of whether the weight loss is coming from the loss of water or muscles or fat. Just blindly dropping weight results in the straight and skinny bodies that according to the British survey, women are moving away from.
