Is the weight loss sustainable
In the frenzy to meet the short-term goal of a particular target weight, they completely ignore the question of whether the weight loss is sustainable. Any way to lose weight is worthless if the weight comes back. Sadly, this is one mistake that every dieter makes. Even more surprising is the fact that some dieters make this mistake over and over. They lose weight and gain it back again. From the failure of the weight loss attempt, they go on the lookout for the next weight loss method that can fulfill their need for quick and fast weight loss.
Some people spend their entire lives in pursuit of this holy grail of weight loss.
Sustainability is the key
Any weight loss method that you attempt must give hope of long-term sustainability. This must be the goal of any weight loss attempt. What good is any weight loss if the weight will not stay off. Most people are unsuccessful at losing weight because they overlook this fundamental need. If what you are doing will not help you keep the weight off for at least two years, do not waste your time doing it.
The Correct Way to Lose Weight and the Popular Way to Lose Weight
Surprisingly, all the popular ways to lose weight are without exercise. The one thing that most people try to avoid when trying to lose weight is exercise. It takes a long time for them to realize that exercise is an essential part of effective, healthy and sustainable weight loss. There are those who have been consistently failing at losing weight and yet do not want to embrace exercise.
Your diet must be your lifestyle
The correct way to lose weight requires that you clean up your diet. Regular exercise is essential. You have to embrace these habits of sustainable weight loss and make it as a part of your lifestyle. This is where most people go wrong with diets. While diets do yield results, these are only temporary results. This is mainly because the diet is only followed temporarily. Most of the diets are so extreme that these cannot be followed indefinitely.
This is why you need to find the middle ground. Embrace habits that you can live with. If you want sustainable weight loss, you must make sustainable weight loss habits as an integral part of your life.
Suresh and Dr Jasvin discuss some of the interesting points that most people must consider if they want to lose weight the correct way.
Hi this is Suresh and Dr Jasvin and we are from the Correct Weight Loss team.
[Suresh] Today we are going to talk about different ways to lose weight. Now basically, there are the popular ways to lose weight which most of us have heard about and then there is the correct way to lose weight. Lets talk initially about the popular ways to lose weight. Dr Jasvin, would you like to touch on some of the popular ways that people try to lose weight.
Popular ways to lose weight
[Dr Jasvin] A lot of people nowadays, frequent slimming centers. There is a lot of hype and marketing about these slimming centers. A lot of people go there and probably lose some amount of weight by going through all the treatments. They normally watch their diets while they are on these treatments. Some other ways are crash or fad diets such as Atkins, Zone or South Beach diets. These are some popular types of diets and a lot of people try them. Some other people put on their pair of shoes and just start running.
[Suresh] Essentially steady state cardio.
[Dr Jasvin] Yes. long distance running.
[Suresh] But the body adapts to it after a while.
[Dr Jasvin] After a while, the body does adapt to it. Initially they do see some weight loss. After a while they may not see that much of an effect.
[Suresh] There is only so much running you can do in a day.
[Dr Jasvin] Some people try spot training like lots of crunches.
[Suresh] It really does not do anything except build your stomach muscles.
[Dr Jasvin] A lot of people take medications to lose weight such as laxatives. Other use slimming teas or diuretics to get rid of water which just leads to dehydration and nothing else. There are also fat burners and carb blockers.
Popular ways to lose weight only treat the symptoms
[Suresh] The popular ways to lose weight the way I see it, are treatments that are symptomatic. These treat the symptoms but do not seem to address the core issues that caused them to gain weight in the first place.
[Dr Jasvin] If you just look at these products and listen to the rational behind it, the products makes sense but the body does not work on common sense.
[Suresh] So popular ways to lose weight treat the symptoms. These give short-term result but not sustainable in the long run.
[Dr Jasvin] Take running as an example. People would think that they are running and should be burning fat every day. But they don’t realize that the body is very intelligent. It adapts.
[Suresh] It adapts and your fat burning slows down. So then off course we have the correct way to lose weight which addresses the core issues. The core issues that create weight gain in the first place. We cover in great extent the correct way to lose weight through the seven keys of weight loss. These principles help you lose fat while maintaining your muscle mass. In the 7 keys we talk about correct nutrition, correct exercise, correct restoration, correct supplementation, correct motivation, correct social support and correct education. These are all covered in great detail in our Correct Weight Loss Blog. Correct weight loss is the more sustainable way to lose weight because it addresses the core issues while most of these popular ways to lose weight are more symptomatic. While you may get short-term results, you do not get much net weight loss at the end of the day.
Your weight loss program must become your lifestyle
[Dr Jasvin] I think the major difference between the popular ways to losing weight and the correct way to lose weight is that the correct way is a change of lifestyle. It is sustainable. The popular way is just a fad. You just do it for a short span of time and move along
[Suresh] It satisfies the quick fix mentality of the masses which is why the masses are generally suffering from weight problems. It does not address the core issues which need a slightly longer and more mature approach to losing weight.
I guess from the Correct Weight Loss team, this time do it right.
