Why Starting Exercise is So Difficult

Starting exercise can be a daunting task for many. The thought of committing to do something that inflicts physical pain is not motivating. This is precisely the reason that most people are not starting exercise or cannot sustain the habit. These people do not know that on the other end of the spectrum, working out provides a “high feeling” that is unexplainable. This occurs once you have crossed the exercise threshold.

Inertia to Starting Exercise

The amount of inertia to starting exercise depends on the balance in your fitness account. Your fitness account is really the amount of credibility you have with yourself when it comes to exercising. If you have made promises before and have not kept them, you probably will have a low balance.  Every time you break a promise to yourself, you make withdrawals.

First Timers Will Find it Easier When Starting Exercise

You will find it very much easier to start and sustain the habit if you are doing it for the first time. You are starting with a zero balance in your fitness account and there is lesser inertia to stop you. The trick is to ingrain the habit deeply when you start. Do it right the first time. Every stop will make the subsequent start that much more difficult. Every stop will drain your fitness account. To many start stops will cause your fitness account to be bankrupt.

Everything Has Inertia

A low balance in the account means a large inertia to start exercise. Everything in the universe has an inertia. Starting exercise is no different. The trick is to make a commitment to exercise and keep this commitment for a minimum of 30 days. Within 30 days, you would have built up a large enough balance in your fitness account. The chances of quitting reduces with every successive work out. Every session adds to the one before it mentally and physically.
