Starting exercise is a major stumbling block for many people. The whole routine of starting exercise does require a lot of discipline because working out is important but not urgent. Nothing external happens when you miss a workout. Unless you have a personal coach, you are probably only answerable to yourself.
Missed Workouts Affect Your Personal Integrity Account
But every time you do miss a workout, something happens internally. You make withdrawals from your personal integrity account. Your personal integrity account is a measure of the amount of trust you have in your self. The more overdrawn your personal integrity account, the more likely you will abandon your workouts after missing one or two sessions.
If You Are Starting Exercise for the First Time
The first 30 days of starting exercise are the most crucial for those who have never exercised before. If you are starting exercise for the first time, there is a higher chance that you will be able to get past these 30 days. This is because you have zero balance in your personal integrity account. With a zero balance, every workout that you do adds to your personal integrity account. It is extremely important to complete these 30 days come what may. Every subsequent attempt at starting exercise will become more difficult.
If You Have Tried Starting Exercise Before
A lot of people have stopped and started exercise. These people will find that every subsequent start after a stop gets tougher and tougher. It becomes more and more difficult when their Personal Integrity Account with respect to your workout efforts, is running into negative territory. These are the people with the most creative excuses. They complain of being too busy with work, or an unsupportive spouse or a sick cat. The list goes on.
These are the people who need the most discipline. The only way to overcome the inertia of starting exercise is to go out there and complete the first 30 days. It will get easier from then on.
Compromising in the first month sets you back tremendously as you are making withdrawals from a Personal Integrity Account that is already negative. Unfortunately, the people who need the program the most are often the ones who start with a negative balance in the Personal Integrity Account.
Keep Going Until You Reach the Exercise Threshold
You will soon come to a threshold where the mental pain of not exercising is more painful that the physical pain of exercising. When you have this feeling, you will know that you have arrived. You have embraced exercise fully. You should be able to cross this threshold within a month.
How will you know when you have crossed the exercise threshold. As I had mentioned, the mental pain of not exercising will far exceed the physical pain of exercising. You will know when you cross the threshold.
Morning Workouts
Get your workouts done in the morning. You have more control over your time in the morning. Completing your workouts in the morning lifts a huge burden off your shoulders. Morning exercise gives you a “feel good” for the rest of the day.
Enjoy the Benefits of Working Out
People report that one of the greatest benefits of regular workouts is not in the physical, but in the spiritual dimension by the increase in integrity and character strength. Keeping to your workout schedule and keeping your weight in check will inculcate so much integrity in you and build such immense character that it will overflow into all other parts of your life. The health benefits of Correct Weight Loss are tremendous. But the spiritual gain from it is immeasurable!

Excellent advice. Maintaining an exercise regime is often difficult the first time around because our bodies aren’t used to such a dramatic change in routine. Connecting missed workouts with inner feels is really important in staying focused and motivated!
