A lot of people complain that they do not get weight loss even when exercising. Research shows that exercise does create a calorie deficit. An interesting research review published in the  International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders in 1998. Researchers concluded that exercise effectively created an energy deficit and is beneficial for losing weight and sustaining the weight loss. Most importantly, they found that exercise did not drive up appetite.

People were not losing weight with exercise probably because of poor eating habits and psychological reasons. The researchers further gave the following 4 reasons for not losing weight with exercise;

1.  Poor food choices

Exercising does not give you the license to eat whatever they feel like. You could spend an hour in the gym and blow it by having a big Mac and a large coke for dinner. Worst still you could halt fat burning altogether by consuming alcohol

2.  Self rewarding habits after exercising

A lot of people feel that they should be rewarded after they have put in the effort to work out. This is a natural tendency and you could get carried away if not careful. You should only reward yourself with a cheat meal once a week. That is your reward for being diligent and working out. You should be careful not to be overzealous at rewarding yourself.

3.  Misjudging the amount of calories burnt

This happens with cardio type exercises such as walking and jogging. Jogging is not the best exercise for weight loss as the body very quickly adapts to it. Unless walking or jogging intensity is being continuously increased, the body will eventually find a balance. Another classic example is swimming. Swimmers have been shown to negate the benefits of all the calories expended by over eating in the meal immediately after.

4. Misjudging the amount of calories consumed

This is extremely common as most of our meals are very dense in calories. Calorie dense food may not be easy to spot. Food become dense in calories when it has too much refined carbohydrates and fat. There is no fibre. As such you could very easily over eat without even realizing it.

Those Not Losing Weight With Exercise Should Examine Eating Habits

Research shows that working out does create an energy deficit. This energy deficit does not necessarily drive up your hunger. As such working out aids weight loss on the condition that you are aware of what you are eating. Those who are not losing weight with exercise should take a step back and look at their eating habits.
