6 Benefits of Exercising With Your Child

A lot of parents make excuses for themselves when asked about exercising. At the same time, they would like their children to start to exercise. Parents are well aware of the benefits of exercising.

If you as a parent want to teach you child the benefits of exercising, why not work out together.  Here are 6 benefits of exercising with your child;

1.  Instill Exercise Habits

The habit of exercise must be instilled early. This should usually be done between the age of 8 and 12. Beyond this age, the parent loses the power to influence children and major influence comes from the child’s social circle. Children must grow up knowing that exercising is as essential as eating and sleeping. They must be made aware of the benefits of exercising early in their life.

2.  Makes Parent Answerable

Exercising with children makes you answerable. You need to keep at it so that your son or daughter keeps at it. Children will quit the moment you quit. As such, this is more beneficial to you than your child. It forces you to be more disciplined than if you were exercising by yourself.

3.  Strengthens Relationships

Exercising together is a fantastic way to strengthen relationship. Parent-child relationship can only be strengthened when the two spend quality time together. Exercising together is a fantastic way to spend lots of time together.

4.  Parent Does Not Have to Feel Guilty Exercising

A lot of parents do not exercise because they feel that exercise takes away time that can be spend with their children. They do this even when they know the tremendous benefits of exercising. The feeling of guilt keeps them from exercising. What better way to get over this than involving your children in exercise.

5.  Forms Character

The act of exercising builds character in both parent and child. It builds character in the child because it forces the habit of discipline upon the child and the parent. Without discipline, the parent or the child will not be able to exercise for long.

6.  Prevents Obesity

The main reason for obesity in children is a lack of exercise and consumption of calorie dense food. Little ones who exercise are rarely obese. Their bodies are yearning for activity. Activity keeps their metabolism in high gear.
