6 Reasons Why You Should be Selfish About Your Wellbeing
Most people are horrified when told to be selfish about their well-being. All their lives, well brought up children are thought of the importance of being selfless. We are thought of the importance of sharing even when we have very little to share.
No where does this become more evident than in the family unit. The youngest member of the family which is usually the youngest child, would be the most selfish. The oldest members of the family which would most likely be the parents, would be the most selfless. In most situations it is perfectly benevolent to be selfless. This is not so when it comes to your well-being.
Here are 6 reasons why your should be selfish when it comes to your well-being;
1. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
Most people start dying from the age of 50. Sadly, people spend the next 10 to 20 years dying, afflicted with all types of lifestyle diseases. You must enjoy life to the fullest. Enjoy all that life has to offer and when it comes for the time to go, you should be able to go painlessly.
2. Do Not be a Burden to Your Loved Ones
Those who suffer the most are those people who survive a heart attack or a stroke. These people usually become debilitated and end up being dependents. They need others to take care of them. This duty usually falls upon their spouse or children. It is extremely unfair to place such a large burden on your spouse or children.
3. Do Not Be Burdened with Medical Costs
You will never be able to cope with rising medical costs as you age. Medical science will be able to keep you alive but not completely heal you of your ailments. If you fall ill, you will spend the rest of your life paying for your medical bills.
4. Be an Example to Your Loved Ones
We need to be an example to our children. When we do not take care of our selves, we send very conflicting messages to our children. We have to teach our children that it is perfectly alright to be selfless when it comes to well-being.
5. Become a Pillar of Support for Others
Not everyone can be selfless when it comes to their wellbeing. This could be your spouse or your parents. They may need your love and support as they age. They may need support for medical costs. When you are well, you can be around for your loved ones.
6. Live Long Enough to Enjoy Benefits of Medical Science
Medical science is progressing at an exponential rate. There will soon come a point when medical science would had found the solutions for most medical illnesses. This possibility is not very far away as scientists unravel our genes. There is nothing medical science can do for you if you are not around or if you are just to ill.
