One of the main reasons for the rise in obesity levels is the steady decline in healthy eating habits. Healthy eating habits are necessary to lose weight and keep it off. Unfortunately current times have caused a deterioration in healthy eating habits.
Interestingly, this deterioration of healthy eating habits is happening in developing and developed countries. It is happening in areas that has been influenced by fast food restaurants and processed food. You probably would not see high obesity rates in regions that are still shielded from this influence.
The Australian Aborigines are one such example. These people had extremely healthy eating habits. Obesity was unheard off. It all turned on its head when they embraced modernization. Not everything that comes with modernization is a good thing. A large percentage of the Aborigine population is overweight. A high proportion of the people have insulin resistance.
One of the collateral-damages of modernization is the decline of healthy eating habits.
Eat Food in its Wholesome Form
It’s better to eat an apple than to drink apple juice. Eat fresh fish instead of canned fish. Eat fresh fruit instead of canned or processed fruit. You should try to eat as much food in its natural and wholesome form as possible.
For a start, completely avoid fast food. The high amounts of trans fatty acids and salt contained in these types of food make it very unhealthy. Avoid anything that comes out of a packet.
Remove Unnecessary Food Out Of Your Life
You should remove unnecessary processed food out of your kitchen. This is food that you could do without. This includes chips, biscuits, juices, carbonated drinks and desserts. These are not necessary. You should be especially cautious of liquid calories. If you really crave for these foods, have it for your cheat meal. Do take note that rules apply when consuming cheat meals.
What If You Are too Busy
Most people are not able to avoid fast or processed food as they lead very busy lives. They do not have time to cook or look for healthy alternatives.
These people should instead try to take stock of the situation. They should at least be aware of how much processed food they are consuming. They should then try to gradually reduce the amount of processed food that they are eating. They should eventually be eating more healthy food than unhealthy and processed food. If you eat enough healthy food, it will give your body the strength and energy to process the unhealthy food without too much ill effects.
