Motivation Thumbs up

Find Motivation

Motivation is essential for anyone trying to lose weight. Motivation can come in many forms. It could be encouragement from someone who is important in your life. It could be a pat on the back for persisting with your endeavour.  It could be an article that you read that makes you feel good.

Motivation in the form of reading material is the most readily available. Its something that you read that lifts your spirit. It wants to make you want to have a go again at what ever you are doing.

Encouragement is a very powerful form of motivation but it is harder to come by. More often than not, people want to bring you down to their level and not help you break free from the crowd. If you are fit and have a well-defined body, it could amplify the short comings of your friends and relatives. These people do not want to take the time or spend the effort to lose weight. Your attempts at weight loss would put them in a very uncomfortable position. As a result, they will discourage you.

Discouragement can be a mortal blow to your weight loss efforts. It can very easily derail someone who has just started on his or her weight loss efforts. You should do your best to guard your self from discouragement. Stay away from people who discourage you. These are dream robbers.

Seek people who encourage and avoid people who discourage like the plague. The people who encourage will take you closer to your dreams. The people who discourage will move you further away with every negative word unleashed from their mouths.

The most powerful form of motivation is recognition. It is the act of being recognized for doing something that required effort, persistence, focus, discipline or any other positive quality. Grown men die for it and babies cry for it. Recognition is built deep within our systems and we thrive on it. A child would go to great lengths to be praised and recognized by their parents. “Look at me mummy”. “Look at my drawing daddy”. “Hear me sing daddy”, the list goes on.

Identify sources that can give you the above variations of motivation. Seek them. Stay close to them. Alternatively, form your social weight loss circle. Motivate each other. Provide recognition to each other. By doing this, the weight loss journey will be so much enjoyable and the fruits of success will taste so much sweeter.

What are other forms of motivation that has been useful in your weight loss journey. We would like to hear your feedback in the comments section below.

I agree. Motivation is huge when it comes to losing weight. I find motivation when people compliment me on how good I look.
