Losing Weight and Keeping it Off
Lose the Weight Correctly
Most people are so caught up with losing weight that they forget the real prize at stake. The real prize is to keep the weight off. Losing weight is the easiest part of any weight loss initiative. Keeping it off is the real challenge.
Just starve yourself and you will eventually have weight loss. It could be water loss or muscle loss but there will be weight loss. Most people do not think as far as weight loss maintenance. When asked, most people just brush it aside and insist that they will be able to maintain it once the weight is lost. In losing weight, you may have activated your body’s starvation response or compromised your metabolism. This makes it that much harder to maintain the weight that has been lost.
Unfortunately or fortunately, in order to maintain weight loss, the weight must be lost correctly. To achieve correct weight loss, all of the weight loss or a large portion of it must be attributed to fat loss. While muscle loss is unavoidable, it must be minimized to an absolute minimum. Only when most of the weight loss is fat loss, can the weight loss be sustainable.
Fat loss cannot be achieved quickly. It requires patience. Most experts agree that the most fat you could lose in a week is 2 pounds. Fat loss cannot be achieved via dieting alone. It requires exercise. It also requires the cultivation of the correct habits that help sustain the weight loss.
The cultivation of the correct habits is what ensures the weight stays off.

Nice post! I agree with weight loss and being healthy. Weight loss will control many things such as hypertension, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.

Its true that people don’t realize the amount of work and effort it takes to lose weight. I would say the easy part to weight loss is to actually lose the weight. But keeping it off is where the challenge begins, it takes good eating habits to sustain the weight loss.

You are absolutely right in pointing out that the easiest part of weight loss is losing the weight. Its only possible to keep the weight off if the correct habits are sustained. Not many people think that far. Thanks for your comments

I have been maintaining a majority of my weight loss for over two years now. When I see that some is starting to come back on I start watching strictly again. Its easy to judge by how your clothes fit…. if you have to up a size that is not good.
I refuse to buy ‘larger’ clothes so I will do with the ones that I have until I can lose a few pounds to have them fit comfortably again, and then I will go out and buy some new ones of my same size.

Thank you for your comment Krista. You are absolutely right that your clothes are the first indicators of weight gain. It is unbelievable hoe some people do not even take these cues. They continue to get bigger and bigger clothes and then wonder how they put on all that weight. Weight gain usually takes years. People can actually keep their weight in check by keeping an eye on their clothes.
