Jack Lalanne Debunks the Myth of Weight Maintenance

A lot of people tell me that they just need to lose 10 pounds or 15 pounds and then they will be able to maintain it! These people seem to think that once the weight comes off, they will somehow remain in that state. Are these people in for a surprise?

There is no such thing as being in maintenance mode. The only thing that is constant is change! You are either making your physique better or making your physique worse. There is nothing in between! Everything you do in life has an effect. Any food that you put into your mouth either makes you closer to your dream body or moves you away.Everything either adds to your weight or takes away from it!

    Some people don’t realize that as we age we are working against nature to try to stay healthy and fit. The natural aging process is to slow down the metabolism, and lose muscle tissue, which will be displaced by fat if the eating habits and activity level do not change. Like you said you are either working to create positive change or sitting back and letting nature take you a day closer to your end.

  2. You are absolutely right. Exercise is essential to reverse the negative effects of aging. We have to fight tooth and nail to hold on to what ever muscle mass we have. The aging process is going to make this as difficult for you as possible. But with the loss of muscle mass, quality of life deteriorates rapidly as seniors become susceptible to falls. The metabolism is compromised and so on. Everyone needs to do what ever they can to hold on to what ever muscle they have and even try to build on it.
