How will you look when you are 84 years old? I am very sure that the picture on the right is not what you had in mind. At the ripe age of 84, Bob Delmonteque will leave any other person 30 to 40 years younger, trailing in his smoke. He participates in marathons, swims long distances and is able to bench press up to 250 pounds. Not bad for someone who is 84 years young.
Incidentally, the picture on the right shows Bob strutting his abs at 84. For those of you who don’t know Bob Delmonteque, here are some fascinating facts about the grand master of fitness.
Bob Demonteque Trained Hollywood Stars
Bob Delmonteque is an absolute legend. He is a supersenior. I am writing this article hoping to motivate anyone out there who thinks that they can’t have a lean mean body because they are too old.
Bob was the personal trainer to many Hollywood stars in the early years. He has trained such greats as John Wayne, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, and even contemporary stars like Matt Dillon.
NASA Trainer for Apollo II Astronauts
His expertise in personal training was recognized by NASA when they recruited him to provide a mental and physical health program for the Apollo II astronauts. He even coached John Glenn during his first space mission and again in 1998, when Glenn returned to space. President Lyndon Johnson even went to the extent of appointing Bob to the President’s council of physical fitness.
How Does Bob Delmonteque Keep Fit
Here is an excerpt directly from his website.
“I actually am growing younger as I’m getting older. And this starts with the mindset, because you can do anything you want to do in life if you want it bad enough. There’s nothing you cannot accomplish. So for any of you seniors, I know it’s never too late to get going. All you need is the goal and the impossible dream. You need a plan, you have to organize yourself and you’ve got to work at it. There has to be a spiritual side of you. You have to so intensely believe that you can do it and that is the secret to making it happen. Because you must persist until you succeed. You can never give up.
As you grow older you have choices in life. To enjoy life to the fullest on one hand, on the other hand, sit down in your rocking chair waiting to die. The secret is making the right decision.”
“I don’t want this body for just now, i intend to live to be a 100″ – Bob Delmonteque
Many people think that Bob’s magnificent physique is a freak occurrence. Some say he has the right genes. Some people say he is lucky. That’s easy for people to say as they only see the end product. But its my opinion that these are just excuses that people make because they are afraid to make the tremendous commitment to have a well defined body for themselves.
In Bob’s own words,“I have paid for this body with years of blood, sweat and tears“. People who have not seen all the hardwork going in call it luck. But you dont sail through life by cutting in lines and going through the backdoors to have a physique like his. Acquiring a well defined and beautiful body or fitness or a attaining a healthy life just does not work that way.
The following quote from Bob very succinctly sums up life, health and fitness.
“Fitness is a lifelong investment with huge life-term payoff and substantial penalties for early withdrawal”.
Bob Delmonteque’s Secret
What is Bob’s secret? In Bob’s own words (from his website),
“My secret was that I had this goal and this impossible dream in life and I never let go until I had accomplished it. I have lived every day of my life like this up until now. I never let go. I persist until I succeed. In fact, I still have this blazing determination and burning desire. It’s changed a little, now at the age of 84. Now I want to be the best built senior citizen on the planet and be like the pied piper with millions of people following me, so I can show them a better lifestyle, so they can enjoy life to the fullest as I have.”
Do also check out Jack Lalanne in the article “Exercise Slows Down Aging and Makes You Look Younger”. Jack Lalanne is a fitness legend. On his 70th birthday, he swam 1.5 miles while towing 70 boats with 70 people.
Bob Delmonteque and Jack Lalanne are the ultimate example of Correct Weight Loss principles. A well defined physique needs to be worked for. You can’t get it via short cuts and quick fixes.
Please get loads of motivation, quotes and excerpts from his many magazine articles from his website. Do have a look at his photo gallery. Its absolutely inspiring!

I like the fact that he knows what he does. I mean at least he’s not getting an injury because of the stress he puts on his body.
Fake hair
Yes he sure knows what he is doing but apparently teh hair is real. He treasures his hair even more than his abs…
It could be a combination of good genes, proper diet definitely & absolute motivation.I admire his outlook in life, far beyond his physique. He should be a good inspiration for a lot of young people & seniors as well. But we have to remember that this guy is a personal trainer so his life mostly evolved around working out so it’s harder for normal people who work regular jobs including people who work 2 jobs because of our struggling economy right now to get the staggering physique like that.I keep myself in shape, probably the best shape I’ve ever been in my life,I’m 26 but I’ve gone to the leanest physique ever compared to when I was a teenager but I will keep his picture in my workout room to add motivation in my workout.Good article!
He has the right mindset. In life, you get what it is you think about most. If you are always thinking how bad life is, your life will be bad. If however you always think about how good your life is, your life will be good. What you think and believe become your reality. This dude obviously has the right mindset and has what he wants. I say to him best of luck and keep going.
Absolutely. he is an inspiration and a motivation. Great thoughts from you as well. Thanks for your comments.
I have been working out since I was 15 and don’t plan on changing that, ever. Hopefully I’ll be in decent shape in my 80’s (well, for an 80yr old that is).
Bob is surely an inspiration.
What is sad is that with the lifestyles most people lead, how many can even think about living to 84? Hopefully this inspires people to get up and move their bodies.
When you read articles like this, it is a true inspiration that you can achieve your goals. I’ve never heard of this guy before, but he look like he knows what he’s talking about. Good post, I’m off to find out more about him.
an example of Hulk Hogan is also good with his physique at this age he is maintaining. What do you ppl say on it ?
Which is better for our body fitness in old age, Yoga or Exercise in gym ?
i am planning to do Yoga on weekends.
Thank you for your comment. Yoga is as beneficial as cardio or weight training. Its just that people do not have time to do everything. You will need strength training to build or maintain your muscle mass. You need cardio to have a healthier cardiovascular system and yoga helps with flexibility among other things.
