Rebound Weight Gain – Why Mary's Weight Keeps Yo-yo-ing (Part 2)
In Part 1, we saw Mary’s outlook to weight loss. Mary kept to her program but only grudgingly. She could hardly wait for her target weight to be achieved so that she could go back to her normal lifestyle. Mary viewed weight loss as a destination.
Mindy on the other hand viewed weight loss as a journey.
Seeing Weight Loss as a Journey – Mindy’s Weight Loss Initiative
Mindy sees exercise and a sensible diet as an essential part of life. She believes that a healthy weight and a beautiful body is a by-product of exercise and a sensible diet.
Mindy put on a lot of weight during her pregnancy. She was at 170 pounds when her son was born. She had a goal target weight of 135 pounds. Mindy does not see exercise as a temporary “thing”. She understands that it is as essential as sleeping and eating. Its just something she has to do just as she has to brush her teeth and have a bath. Its a priority. Off course Mindy enjoys her wine and cheese cake but she knows her limits. She has a good unrestricted meal on Saturday nights but eats sensibly the rest of the week.
Why Mary Regained the Weight and Mindy Did Not
Mary did the exercises grudgingly and always found excuses not to do it. She restricted her food but kept telling herself that it was temporary.
Mindy did not enjoy waking up an hour earlier in the morning for exercise but accepted that it was part and parcel of a healthy life. She accepted the fact that eating sensibly and responsibly was a necessity and she chose to prioritize it.
In the end, they both achieved their target weight. The only difference is that Mary put it back on faster than she lost it. Mindy lost the weight and kept it off. Why did this happen?
Mary went back to her normal lifestyle as soon as she achieved her target weight. There were tonnes of excuses. “New project, kids fell sick, in-laws visiting, vacation, cat fell sick, etc.”
Mindy had similar challenges but she made one decision very early on. She decided that exercising and eating responsibly is a lifelong thing. Just as she never missed out on brushing her teeth and missing baths, Mindy also kept to her exercise regime as much as possible.
