Why Do You Keep Falling Back In Your Weight Loss Efforts – Part 1
This is Mary’s typical week before she starts her weight loss program. Her weight has been steadily creeping up on her and she knows that she has to do something sooner than later.
Mary is quite excited. She is going to start exercise and a strict nutrition regime from the coming Monday. Mary feels that Monday is the only day of the week that seems to be the right time to start any weight loss efforts.
Mary’s plan always starts out the same way. The cycle is very predictable and goes something like this.
A few days into the week, negative feelings start to set in as her weight is slowly creeping up on her. This is aggravated by all the guilt due to the negative habits that are not helping her weight. The lattes and cakes are not helping either. As the negative habits continue, the feelings progress from being bloated to feeling downright fat. She starts feeling rotten every time she looks into the mirror. In this negative state, she sees the “Michelin Woman” in the mirror. Her clothes are getting tighter, no thanks to her thunder thighs and hippo hips!
Sick and tired of being sick and tired, she decides that she has had enough. “Its time to take control!”, she tells herself. She sets Sunday as the last day of indulgence. Monday onwards is going to be strict exercise and diet. But envisioning that Monday onwards is going to be tough, she decides to let herself go. She is going to reward herself before she starts with her plan.
A proper last meal will almost always include pizza and cheese cake. And the pizza must have extra cheese. Mary might as well have an extra large piece of cheesecake since she is going to have to slog really hard next week as she ventures into the world of the fit and fabulous.
Of course, during this feeding frenzy, Mary has not been keeping up with her usual exercise routine either. “I will give myself a break this week. Its going to be a tough week next Monday”, she says to herself.
The treadmill has gotten dusty, and she’s not feeling quite as energetic as when she was doing regular exercise. So instead of going for a brisk walk, she’ll just watch TV or read a magazine. The energy just isn’t there for anything else.
