In the previous article “Why Do People Keep Messing Up When Trying to Get in Shape? Could it Be an Overdrawn Personal integrity Account”, it was explained how the balance in your Personal Integrity Account decides whether you are able to keep promises to your self. A lot of people out there are walking around with such massively overdrawn Personal Integrity Accounts that they are in terms of integrity, bankrupt!
So how do you build a high balance in your Personal Integrity Account?
You primarily build it through the exercise of independent will in making and keeping commitments. Independent will means acting deliberately.
Let me give you an example. You decide to do something about your weight. You are required to exercises and follow a suggested regime of supplementation and clean eating. Every day that you comply with the program, you add credits to your account.
The early days are extremely critical. When it comes to shaping your body, your may have a zero balance in your Personal Integrity Account. Or it could even be negative, if you have been through yo-yo dieting. The early days can be tough but consistently adding to your account gives you the strength to keep on keeping on. After some time, you would have built such a huge balance that it would be difficult to falter in your goals towards a better body.
That is why one has to enforce his or her independent will in the beginning to ensure that there are no withdrawals from an already depleted Personal Integrity Account. Missing two or three exercise sessions or succumbing to one or two sinful meals can quickly result in a helpless downward spiral.
Anyone who has gone on an exercise program long enough will experience crossing a threshold. After this threshold one feels guilty not exercising or eating the wrong types of food. These people have basically built huge surpluses in their account which then acts to keep them on track.
What about those who continuously make withdrawals from this account. This is disastrous.
There are basically 2 groups of people;
- Those who consistently start-stop the program. These people will find that every subsequent start after a stop gets tougher and tougher. It becomes more and more difficult when your Personal Integrity Account with respect to your weight loss efforts, is running into the negative territory. These are the people with the most creative excuses. They complain of being too busy with work, or an unsupportive spouse or a sick cat. The list goes on.
- Those who severely compromise compliance to the program in the first month. Compromising in the first month sets you back tremendously as you are making withdrawals from a Personal Integrity Account that is starting at zero. Unfortunately, the people who need the program the most are often the ones who start with a negative balance in the Personal Integrity Account.
People report that one of the greatest benefits of regular physical exercise is not in the physical, but in the spiritual dimension by the increase in integrity and character strength. Keeping to your exercise schedule and keeping your weight in check will ingrain so much integrity in you and build such immense character that it will overflow into all other parts of your life. The health benefits of Correct Weight Loss are tremendous. But the spiritual gain from it is immeasurable!
