I found this fascinating article from Scientific American which answers “Does Exercise Really Make You Healthier” quite nicely.
The article explains how exercise benefits the following;
- Heart and blood vessels
- Preventing cancer
- Building stronger bones
- Warding of diabetes
- Making you smarter
My favorite part is how it helps make you smarter. All the while exercisers were thought to be “dumbbells” or “jocks”. Well it seems that it may not be true after all. Us “jocks” may actually be mentally sharper or even smarter than some of our sedentary counterparts out there, or so the research says.The verdict on exercise and weight loss is mixed. Thats because weight loss is a result of a synergy of factors and not just exercise alone. Any attempt to lose weight by just focusing on exercise is futile. I have summed up this article above but for those who need a scientific explanation, please read “Does Exercise Make You Healthier?”
