The Difference Between Multi Grain and Whole Grain Bread
Bread is a favourite with most people.
With the increased awareness in health nowadays, you definitely may have come across multi-grain breads or whole grain breads. The fact that it has “grain” in its name, seems to imply that it is healthy. Well there is a difference.
A multi-grain bread is made from at least two different types of grains such as wheat and oats or wheat and rye. The only catch here is that the grains could have been refined before use. Refining the grains result in loss of nutrition, fibre and increase in the glycemic loading. An increase in glycemic loading results a higher peak in insulin release which results in more fat storage.
Whole grain means the bread includes the nutritious bran and germ of the grain. It thus contains the fiber, minerals, vitamins and all other nutrients that you would get if you ate the grains directly. You’re getting all the grain has to offer as it has been stripped of nothing. The increased content of fibre results in a reduced glycemic loading. as well.
A lot of people get fooled into thinking that whole meal bread is healthy. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is little difference between white bread and whole meal bread.
If you enjoy bread as much as I do, invest in a bread maker. These have become very affordable. The beauty about making your own bread is that you could add as many different grains as you want. You could adds oats, seeds, crushed almonds and other whole grains for a real yummy treat. And its rich in fibre too!

How often do you see a white bread sandwich with processed cheese spread with margarine………. three ‘so called foods’ all altered from their primary foods by removing good natural substances in each of them so you are left with intrinsically only manufacturers chemicals. Whilst a cheese sandwich is a bad mix of protein and carbs which taken together will putrefy into an indigestible stomach lump…this manufactured white trio is probably the worse tasteless mix that so many people accept as ‘daily bread’…….
