How fast do you want to lose your weight?

|

Speed (Courtesy of stock.xchng by markmiller)How fast do you want to lose your weight?How much of work are you willing to put into achieving these goals?What are you willing to sacrifice in exchange for these goals?

If you follow a solid regiment of nutrition/supplementation/exercise, expect to lose about 1 to 2 pounds of fat per week. In fact for very obese people, you can even expect to lose up to 1% of your body weight per week. Off course you could easily lose more than this but all the excess weight loss could be valuable muscles or water. You don’t want to lose muscles as it will lead to rebound weight gain. There is no point getting excited about weight loss attributed to water as it will come back just as fast as you lost it.

The bottom line to achieving this weight loss is a sacrifice of time and effort on your part with lots of patience!Sacrifice always sounds like a painful word whenever someone hears it. But its actually not!One of the very apt synonyms of the word “sacrifice” from dictionary.com goes as follows;

sacrifice : the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim.

In other words, you give something in exchange of getting something of higher value!

So someone on a weight loss journey will have to surrender his or her time, effort  for something that is perceived of higher value which is a better physique, health benefits and not to mention skyrocketing self confidence.  I think this is a fantastic and absolutely fair deal.

Nothing of value has ever been attained by anyone without some form of sacrifice. Can anyone out there point towards some great man or woman who has attained a worthwhile goal before giving something first.

The problem is with some people who can’t seem to keep their end of the bargain. Most of the time they try to shortcut the process by going for a quick fix. Its either a starvation diet or the latest drug or the latest abs machine. In these modern times, people try to replace effort and time with money. Money is the least important component of the weight loss equation. If money could buy weight loss, all of the affluent people would be walking around with 6 pack abs!

Some people spend years to reach a certain level of weight and expect to lose it in a month. These people have not heard of the Law of the Farm. It takes time to sow the seeds and reap the harvest. Do you know of any farmer that is able to plow, sow,harvest within a month? Everything in nature takes its due course. Can you fast track a pregnancy from 9 months to 2 months or even 1 month? “Off course Not!”, you would say. But yet these same people put illogical demands on their weight loss efforts.

A lot of people get so tangled up with quick fixes that they actually end up spending years and tons of money. If they had just followed the Law of the Farm and had patience, they would have attained a very solid body in the same amount of time.  How can you spend 3 years to put on weight and expect to lose it in a month short of using a bunsen burner to literally burn it off! If these people had just focused on the basics and kept at it, as sure as the sun would rise in the east and set in the west, they would lose weight and have a tremendous body.

What if you have a solid regiment of nutrition/exercise/supplementation and yet not losing 1 to 2 pounds of weight per week? Go back to the drawing board and see where you may be going wrong. More often than not, the culprit is usually your Nutrition habits! There could also be other reasons such as excessive stress, lack of sleep and a host of other factors!

So to summarize, if you have  a solid nutrition/exercise/supplementation plan, expect to lose between 1 to 2 pounds of weight per week. Do not think that money can replace time and effort in attaining that dream body that you are yearning for. A good physique is a 1 – 2 year long project. Give the project your commitment and patience. Keep measuring progress and ensure that you are always making progress. Let your weight loss journey be a sweet one. Once and for all, do it right!
