sumo wrestler diet

Have you heard of the Sumo Wrestler Diet? Have you ever wondered how Sumo wrestlers get the way they do? They wake up very early in the morning. They workout and train their Sumo moves until late in the morning. Breakfast is not part of the program. You can imagine the immense hunger of these 300 pound wrestlers by noon time. It’s then an all out buffet of all you can eat for lunch. This is followed by a nap immediately after lunch.

They awake 2 to 3 hours later and train again through out the evening. This is followed again by a large meal for dinner. There is no TV or late nights for our Sumo Wrestler boys. They go to bed soon there after. This is called the Sumo Wrestler diet.

And what are the effects of the Sumo Wrestler diet…….. You guessed it. They pile on endless pounds and have those familiar hefty physiques. But note that since these Sumo Wrestlers exercise quite a bit, they are not as clumsy or unfit as another individual who is just as overweight but does not exercise.

Now lets look at the modern man. He or she wakes up in the morning. Has a quick coffee and is off to work. So while the Sumo Wrestler is training, our modern man (and woman) is toiling in the office. Then comes lunch. After being hungry for 12 to 18 hours (from last night’s dinner), you can imagine the hunger pangs. Some go one step further and do the modified Sumo Diet where they have a sandwich or skip lunch all together.

It’s then back to the office and toiling again for the rest of the afternoon and then fighting traffic back home. And for some, its facing the next battle at home when the kids are craving for your attention and time. You can only imagine the hunger by this time.  The modern man (and woman) have their mega huge gigantic monstrous jumbo meals.  They don’t realize how much they eat because they take several helpings. By then they are so stuffed with food that they promise to make up for the overeating by skipping breakfast and having a small sandwich for lunch. After this meal, the effects of the long tiring day start to set in and the bed starts calling. Some are sitting in front of the TV, with the TV watching them! Shortly after that, they are in bed fast asleep with all those calories in their bellies.

Excess consumption followed by sleep results in your body storing all those calories as fat. Do you see the similarities in some of your diets and that of the Sumo Wrestlers! Could you unknowingly be on the Sumo Wrestler Diet?

Look around you as you read this post. Are there potential or budding Sumo candidates around you, developing the Sumo physique not knowingly!

It’s bad enough for a man to have a Sumo physique, it’s even worst if a woman has one.

So the take home message is spread out your meals throughout the day. Make breakfast your most sumptuous meal but dinner your smallest. Correct weight loss results from correct nutrition. Correct nutrition is essentially a healthy and clean diet regiment with small meals spread out through out the day.

Plan your meals in advance. It’s difficult to accept the excuses that most people give. “I don’t have enough time.!” “I woke up late” and any other hundred other excuses. Everyone has the same amount of hours as any other person. Prioritizing and planning is important. Avoid being on the Sumo wrestler diet.

So if you live the Sumo way, you will look the Sumo way! This is not fun!

Paramjit i finally started gym back again. Today was my first day. Well i am using the same strategy as before. Run a lot on the tredmill and get lean and shed weight for perfect fit lol. { doesn’t really help in toned muscle mass}. I also combined 2 sets of 12-14 reps follow up all body workout in a fast pace so I could sweat faster with few breaks. However this technique works the quickest combined with the good diet plan – light lunches & mostly soups for dinner. One thing is that because one sweats a lot so sodium loss and sugar burn can be harmful. so keep low calorie hydrates with you. last to last year in 5 months iI lost 50 lbs, I went from 235 to 185. Any suggestions, what do u think…..

Interesting read…
Seeing a lot of connections to when I worked in an office. Many pear-shaped bodies sitting around and only getting up to go to the kitchen for lunch.

its really worst to imagine also to have Sumo physique and yea it’s even worst if a woman has one, lol. But still i have seen some cases around my society.

You are very right at the daily routine of the modern man with whole day busy with office stuff and the food routine or schedule goes worst

About me, i am on diet with my fitness coach and try to go gym atleast 3-4 days a week

If you take in 15,000 calories or more a day then it probably doesn’t matter if you eat breakfast, take naps, etc…

I’m not saying that your observations aren’t sound in terms of generalities concerning health. But ignoring the total calorie intake in favor of meal timing and activity is like ignoring the big pink elephant in the room.

Thanks Eric for your comments. What finally count are the calories consumed vs the calories expanded. Total calorie intake should not be ignored and is fundamental in losing weight. The point to emphasize is skipping breakfast which prolongs the body’s starvation phase. At least with that regard, having a breakfast as early as possible should make sense.

I’ve never heard about Sumo Diet. And in my wildest thoughts i never thought that they are on diet. Those giants undergo diet also!! This was quite surprising for me.

The “diet” don’t mean they are on a weight loss diet, they can be on a weight gain diet.

The real facts are that they eat a lot at once and the body considers most part of that good unnecesary at that time and make fat deposits, and they eat before they go to sleep which is worse: all food is deposited as fat.
